Morwell Group Fire Action Week Activities
As part of the state wide Fire Action Week, on Friday 21 November the Morwell Group of Fire Brigades held the annual competition to judge the best prepared and presented truck in preparation for the forthcoming fire season.
Appliances from Boolarra, Churchill, Driffield, Hazelwood North, HVP Plantations, Yinnar and Yinnar South participated in a procession from Churchill, through the Morwell CBD, and then via the Princes Highway to Mid Valley Shopping Centre where the appliances were judged for their preparedness and presentation.
The judges, ACO Trevor Owen and former Gippsland Regional Director Mark Potter, inspected all participating appliances checking for correct stowage, cleanliness, and overall presentation. In a close competition, after a countback the Gordon Bolwell Memorial Trophy for 2014 was presented to the Churchill brigade by Gordon’s daughter, Heather Bolwell.
Organiser of the activities, DGO Bill Scoborio, said it was very pleasing to see so many brigades participating in the parade and truck judging. "Brigades are taking pride in their appliances with many having spent hours cleaning, polishing and checking equipment in preparation for the judging".
The evening concluded with a barbeque for all participants in the grounds of Mid Valley.
