Mt Helen fire station site
A new fire station for Mt Helen is one step closer with land announced for the site.
During his visit to the Ballarat area today, Deputy Premier and Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Peter Ryan, announced that land had been secured for the new fire station on Greenhill Road at Mt Helen.
CFA Grampians Regional Director Don Kelly said this was great news for residents of the fire-prone area south of Ballarat city, and would allow CFA to extend its services directly to the community of Mt Helen.
“A fire station at Mt Helen will compliment CFA’s existing services to ensure residents in and around Ballarat are better protected from the threat of fire,” he said.
“As part of the region’s Eureka Strategy which details a fire response proposal for Ballarat, this area was identified as being in need of a CFA fire station.
“The announcement of this land brings us one step closer to seeing a new station built for Mt Helen which is welcomed news by CFA and I am sure, the wider Ballarat community.”
Mr Kelly said the proposal to build the new station had also been through a partnership with the University of Ballarat.
