UPDATE FRI 12pm: Firefighters have determined the fire was caused by a burning log which fell out of a wood combustion heater when the door was opened.

A family home in Boolarra has been extensively damaged after a log rolled out of a fire, but thankfully the mother and baby inside escaped in time.

Around 20 firefighters were able to contain the blaze at 11:08am after less than hour, fighting the fire internally to save the remaining quarter of the home.

The home is on a small acreage and seven trucks worked to relay water up the 150 metre long driveway.

Crews from Boolarra, Hazelwood North, Mirboo North, Morwell, Traralgon, Traralgon West, Yinnar and Yinnar South will remain on scene for some time cleaning up.
