Update: National Emergency Medal - May 2014

The ‘Vic Fires 09’ campaign has been declared a Nationally Significant Event under the auspice of the National Emergency Medal. Subsequently, in February 2012, a call for National Emergency Medal nominations was made to all brigades to provide details and evidence to support members being considered for this prestigious award. Following an extensive consolidation process, the first schedule containing 4,760 of CFA nominations was submitted to the Australian Honours and Awards Secretariat (AH&AS) in November 2012. Additional nominations were also submitted for consideration in 2013 and 2014.

As a result, CFA has received to date approval for over 5,450 Award Sets. As at May 2014, 3,446 approved recipients have been presented a National Emergency Medal award set at one of 28 ceremonies delivered across the state of Victoria. The remaining medals will be presented in 2014 and future ceremonies will be scheduled as new nominations are approved.
