In June and July 2014, CFA continued to recognise volunteers who fought the 2009 bushfires with National Emergency Medal (NEM) presentations at Kyneton, Bendigo, Mildura, Swan Hill, Lardner and Melton.

To date, approximately 5,450 NEM award sets have been approved for CFA members. Around 4,501 have been presented to members over 40 functions across Victoria.

The NEM award set goes to CFA members who performed services in direct response to specific emergencies, including emergency response to the 2009 Victorian bushfires.

Representatives of the Board attended the functions to congratulate the large number of NEM recipients. The Chief Officer was represented at the ceremonies by Deputy Chief Officers Alan Ellis, Greg Esnouf, Joe Buffone, Alan Slijepcevic and Acting Regional Director Mike Wassing.
