National Emergency Medals

  • Drouin West Fire Brigade
  • Longwarry & District Fire Brigade
  • Neerim South Fire Brigade
  • Warragul Fire Brigade

Sunday the 20th July, four Brigades from West Gippsland Group attended a special ceremony to receive a National Emergency Medal. The Brigades included Drouin West, Longwarry & District, Neerim South & Warragul.

They joined 23 other Brigades from across Gippsland from as far east as Lakes Entrance. All up there were 146 medals awarded. The recipients were joined by 500 of their family and friends at Lardner Park. The medals were presented by Gary Blackwood MLA, representing Kim Wells the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, along with DCO Greg Esnouf AFSM, who was representing the Chief Officer. Also in attendance was, Mark Potter, Regional Director for Gippsland (who was also awarded a medal) along with Michael Freshwater, CFA Board Member.

MC for the ceremony was Don Allan AFSM, DPC Chair and Fire-fighter – Kongwak & District Fire Brigade. He was brilliantly assisted by Danielle O'loughin, Captain - Berrys Creek Fire Brigade.

It was a wonderful event and recognition for the great work that volunteers did during the 2009 fires.

A number of Neerim South members were presented with a National Emergency Medal in October last year at a ceremony in Morwell.
