An audio version of the new Fire Ready Kit is making fire preparation easier for people that need or prefer their information in audio.

“It’s crucial that every Victorian has information on how to stay safe this summer and we’re working to remove any obstacles,” said Angela Cook, Fire Ready Victoria Program Manager.

The audio kit has been expanded to include the entire range of summer fire safety fact sheets, covering: Fire Danger Ratings, Preventing Haystack Fires, Grassfires, Horses and Bushfires and Pets and Bushfires.

“All these fact sheets are available for download from the CFA website and we’re always looking at different ways to make the materials accessible. We’ll be sending the Fire Ready Kit CDs to libraries and even offering the files through iTunes.

“We’ve heard of people listening to these CDs on the road, which is a great idea. We’re actually looking at options to offer them at road stops as well.”

Angela encourages all members to forward the materials on to friends and family who might get some use out of them.

“A lot of people will have family, friends or neighbours who might need your help leaving early before a bushfire. Talk to everyone you live with about your plans so you all know what you’ll do on a bad day,” Angela said.

You can request a hardcopy or DAISY version of the audio FireReady Kit by calling the Victorian Bushfire Information Line (1800 240 667) and download mp3 recordings of the key fact sheets here.
