A new CFA station will increase the capacity of firefighters to protect lives and property in Newham and surrounding areas in the Macedon Ranges.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Minister for Bushfire Response Kim Wells was joined by Member for Northern Victoria Region Amanda Millar and Liberal Candidate for Macedon Donna Petrovich today to officially open Newham CFA station.
“The Napthine Government is committed to ensuring CFA members have the latest tools and resources needed to support the community and prepare for and respond to emergencies,” Mr Wells said.
“This new $700,000 station has been funded through the Coalition Government’s Rural Fire Station project and will provide a significant upgrade that will ensure the brigade is well equipped to continue to perform its critical work protecting lives and property.
“The Coalition Government has invested more than $125 million over the past three years to fulfill its commitment to build 250 new or upgraded CFA stations across the state.”
Ms Millar said the new CFA station supports the brigade’s dedicated members who attend emergencies locally and across the state.
“The Newham brigade currently has 67 members, including some who have provided continuous emergency response service to the community for as long as 45 years,” Ms Millar said.
“This investment fosters growth in rural and regional Victoria and builds on the Coalition Government’s significant work to strengthen Victoria’s emergency services.”
The modern fire station offers ample space, a breathing apparatus washing facility and water tanks. It also features a spacious meeting room, offering members a comfortable area to attend meetings and train.
Mr Wells said the Coalition Government had a strong commitment to providing firefighters with the resources and support they need to do their job.
“Since coming to office in 2010, the Coalition Government has provided the CFA with more than $1.84 billion. This financial year the CFA Budget is
$446 million, $47 million more than under the last Labor budget,” Mr Wells said.
“The Coalition Government recently announced another significant boost to the CFA’s emergency response capabilities, investing more than $29 million in the purchase of 78 new vehicles.
“The Coalition government is proud to support CFA members by providing them with the facilities and equipment they need to save lives and property.”
