Casterton Fire Brigade members have welcomed a fully-refurbished medium pumper to their fleet.
The pumper was transferred from Bayswater Brigade and has been extensively upgraded and refitted by Warrnambool-based DMOs
The Type 3 pumper was recently transferred from Bayswater Fire Brigade, after the delivery of their new heavy pumper in April. The truck has since been extensively upgraded and refitted by CFA’s Warrnambool-based District Mechanical Workshop staff before being delivered to Casterton.
Built around the reliable Isuzu FTR800 Crew Cab chassis and powered by a sturdy 6 cylinder diesel engine, the pumper is designed primarily for use in urban emergency situations, featuring a 2000-litre First Aid water tank and transport for up to six crew members.
The business end of the truck is built around the highly-regarded NSW-class body and Rosenbauer firefighting pump. The pump is fitted with an automatic primer and can be operated in either manual or fully-automatic mode, with set-and-forget water pressures and volumes.
It also has the ability to operate in low pressure mode supplying large quantities of water for major fires, or in high pressure mode, which produces a heat-absorbing fog designed to extinguish confined structural fires with minimal water damage.
To deal with flammable liquid incidents, the pump can produce large quantities of firefighting foam.
The pumper carries Breathing Apparatus (BA), a gas detector and Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC), as well as a host of other modern firefighting equipment. State-of the art radio communications and upgraded LED lighting systems round out the package.
DMO Officer-In-Charge Pat Hyland handed the vehicle keys to Casterton Fire Brigade Captain, Lee Condon.
Captain Condon thanked the DMO staff for their work, saying the new truck would provide good service to Casterton and surrounding communities well into the future.
"With our new station about to be built, this pumper is a great inclusion to our fleet," Lee said.
"The modern equipment it carries will help with increasingly complex incidents we attend and we're impressed with the Rosenbauer pump, which is very easy to operate."
