New tanker and 715 years of service
On Saturday 12 October 2013 approximately 50 people gathered at the Wilby Rural Fire Station for the commissioning of the new Wilby Fire Truck and presentation of service awards in recognition of volunteer services to the CFA
Official guests for the day were Tim McCurdy, Member for Murray Valley, Ross Coyle CFA Board Member, Rob Van Dorsser CFA Operations Officer District 22, Cr Brian Keenan Moria Shire Mayor, Cr Don McPhee Moira Shire, Cr Peter Mansfield Moira Shire and Jeff Nunn Yarrawonga Fire Brigades Group Officer
Wilby Rural Fire Brigade Captain Craig Prescott was handed the keys to the new 2.4C Tanker by Tim McCurdy Member for Murray Valley. The 2.4C Tanker is a more modern and up to date tanker that includes new features such as a 4WD Crew Cab, all of the latest CFA safety features such as spray deluge system and drop down fire protection curtains in the cabin, front bull bar mounted monitor with cabin joystick control and Quenchmaster Class A foam system.
Craig Prescott stated “the Wilby Fire Brigade was happy to receive this new tanker making this the sixth fire truck it has now had in its 65 years of operation. He highlighted the back drop of the presentation which included the new tanker and the previous two tankers, those being the Isuzu 2.2 Medium Tanker and the Austin Petrol Tanker.”
Craig went on to give a brief history of the Wilby Fire Brigade which formed on 12 January 1948 and has had nine captains with several families still having a direct connection to the official start of the brigade.
This was followed by Rob Van Dorsser CFA Operations Officer and Ross Coyle CFA Board Member presenting service awards to the members of the Wilby Rural Fire Brigade. In total 715 years of service by current members were recognised, which included four members recognised for 50 years of service.
