Nominations open for MCG Parade of Honour
As part of National Volunteer Week, CFA is offering its volunteers the opportunity to be part of the AFL Country Game pre-match celebrations at the MCG.
This year’s game will be a night match between Essendon and Geelong on Saturday 13 May 2017. The pre-match parade will involve our volunteers, proudly wearing their CFA gear, marching around the hallowed grounds of the MCG.
The brainchild of long-term Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy, the Country Game is designed to pay tribute to the contribution of regional and rural areas to football. Country towns generally have two main community hubs – the footy/netball club and a CFA brigade. Kevin Sheedy decided that the Country Game should be an opportunity for everyone to say ‘thanks’ to CFA volunteers for the work they do.
We are offering 200 volunteers the chance to nominate themselves to be part of the parade. Successful applicants will be volunteers who have made a valuable contribution to the community, while demonstrably upholding CFA Values. To nominate click here and fill out the form. Nominations close Thursday 27 April 2017.
In addition, every volunteer who marches will receive one complimentary AFL reserved seat and have the opportunity to purchase an additional 7 AFL Reserve seats at the discounted cost of $25 per ticket (plus booking fee) for colleagues, friends or family members to join them.
