Old saw mill up in flames
An overnight fire at Morwell caused damage to a disused saw mill. Firefighters were called to the Miners Way property just before 2am (14 June).
On arrival, part of the 150x30 metre structure was well alight.
It took crews about one and a half hours to control the fire. They contained it to a 50x30 metre section of the building.
District 10 RDO Len Scheetz said it was a great save by the 50 firefighters at the scene.
“The building contained fertiliser and machinery and firefighters were able to ensure they didn’t get damaged.”
He said crews will be on scene for some time overhauling and mopping up.
13 trucks and vehicles from Morwell, Churchill, Hazelwood, Yallourn and Traralgon, including the Ladder Platform, attended.
A fire investigator will attend this morning to determine the cause.
