Photos from Cope Cope fire

These photos of the Cope Cope crop and grassfire were taken by Wayne Rigg. Wayne is an Acting CFA Aviation Officer and was the Air Attack Supervisor at the incident.

A large grassfire north of St Arnaud in the state’s west has been contained.

CFA and DSE were called to the fire involving crop and grass stubble just after 3.00pm yesterday, 27 December.

The fire took about an hour to contain and is estimated to have burnt through 550 hectares.

A number of aircraft and 29 trucks attended the incident and firefighters remained on scene into the night to monitor the fire and black out.

An Advice message is still current for Gooroc, Cope Cope and Coonooer West as smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.

Police also attended to manage traffic.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
