A fire east of Kyneton has now been controlled.
CFA was called to the blaze in Balls Lane, Pipers Creek about 4.00am today, Tuesday 15 January. It burnt about five hectares.
District 2 Operations Officer Craig Brittain said the fire was burning in dense grass and scrub and was difficult for crews to access.
He said the fire was brought under control at 6.30am and an Advice warning was issued for Pipers Creek, Carlsruhe and Newham with smoke visible from nearby communities and roads.
A total of 19 appliances – including tankers, slip-ons and support vehicles – attended the scene from Benloch, Carlsruhe, Hesket, Kyneton, Lancefield, Malsbury, Metcalfe, Newham, Pastoria, Spring Hill, Trentham, Tylden and Woodend.
The cause of the fire will be investigated.
