CFA Brigades in Eastern Metro Region are combining forces with Melbourne Water and DSE to increase their capacity to burn and provide better protection to the communities they serve.

CFA and Melbourne Water have worked closely together to develop plans for fire protection around the reservoirs and also to provide protection to the local residents. This week a burn was successfully conducted around Silvan Reservoir.

These burns provide a great opportunity for brigade members to undertake skills maintenance in planned burning and to teach some of the newer members’ skills in burning as well as giving them an opportunity to observe fire behaviour. This was an excellent opportunity for agencies to work
together before meeting on the fireground. Even several Ops Officers helped out on a drip torch.

More joint agency burns are planned with DSE and CFA on private land in Hoddles Creek. Brigades have also been undertaking burns on private land and council reserves in Belgrave South, Scoresby and Upper Ferntree Gully.
