Point Wilson grass fire
**Update** - This fire is now under control. Crews will remain on scene until the fire is extinguished and to ensure no hot spots flare up. The fire burnt approximately 450 hectares.
One structure was damaged; the Point Wilson explosives gatehouse which was due for demolition. Fire investigators are en route.
The grass fire was reported at 1.20pm today, 30+ crews are still on scene in the Dandos Road Point Wilson / Avalon area, south west of Melbourne. One aircraft (helitak) is also assisting in the firefight.
Control has been set up on the corner of Dandos and Pousties Roads. The fire was particularly active in 29 Mile Road.
The westerly wind change and scattered showers have now passed through the area.
No communities or assets are under threat. An updated advice message has been issued for nearby communities in Avalon, Corio, Little River and Lara – advising that the fire is under control, but they should still stay informed. Smoke may be visible in some communities. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings
