Today I received Independent Investigator Professor Rob Joy's report into historic practices for live fire fighting training at Fiskville.

The CFA Board will consider the report before releasing it publicly along with its response.

I'd like to thank Professor Joy and his team for what was an outstanding effort to bring the report together over a six month period. I'd also like to reassure people that the report will be made available in coming weeks.

We understand some people are anxious to read the report and we want to see this happen as soon as possible.

However, the report is a significant piece of work and the Board will need time to consider its contents and prepare our response.

Our support for the Independent Fiskville Investigation and our response to the report will be guided by concern for the welfare of our people, past and present.

Since CFA management were made aware of Fiskville health concerns in December 2011, Professor Joy's team have conducted approximately 300 interviews and accessed around four million records.

Under the Terms of Reference, this report will examine the facts around what happened at Fiskville between 1971 and 1999.

Professor Joy's report is an important and significant first step and, once we have considered it, we will be in a better position to undertake further work that assesses potential links between past practices and members' health.
