Public Alert Level Raised
Today the Commonwealth Government has raised the National Terrorism Public Alert Level from Medium to High due to increased terrorism concerns.
Victorian government departments and key agencies such as Victoria Police are working closely together with our Commonwealth counterparts through longstanding national security arrangements.
Victoria Police is also urging everyone to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity through Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400.
How long the threat level remains at High is a matter for security agencies. However, the Commonwealth Government has indicated that it does not want the public alert level to remain High for longer than necessary.
We are being regularly updated on the situation and we will share further information with you as required.
For CFA members, this means all of us should be aware of the increased public alert level, particularly when responding to incidents. We need to be mindful that this may provide another context around emergencies that our members may be called on to respond to.
As the Chief Police Commissioner said today, we need to be vigilant, and to report suspicious activities.
