Queen Mary 2 – winners announced
Despite the tight time frame, we received over 400 entries into this competition.
One thing that shone through from many of the entries received was the number of members that entered, not for themselves but for fellow members.
This epitomizes the true spirit of CFA, the camaraderie and team spirit shared amongst our brigades, something which we can all be very proud of.
But unfortunately there can only be five winners. The lucky winners have been notified and they are:
Wolfgang Krause of Christmas Hills Brigade District 14, North & West Metro Region turned out to the Kangaroo Ground fire and other smaller grass fires in the area this summer. Robyn Duff was actually drawn as the winner, but she chose to give her prize to her fellow long-serving and dedicated brigade member Wolfgang and his wife who is an auxiliary member. What a beautiful gesture Robyn!
Phil De La Haye of Hastings Brigade District 8, Southern Metro Region was nominated by two other people. He has been busy this summer organising strike teams for the Heyfield, Grampians and Harrietville fires.
Noel McWilliams of Erica Brigade District 9, Gippsland Region and also CFA staff member worked at Heyfield and Erica ICC’s in Planning and Capability roles.
Colin Brown of Corryong Brigade, District 24 Hume Region was also nominated by another person. He has worked on numerous fires this season in the Upper Murray and NSW.
Leigh Dwyer of Toolong Brigade District 5, Barwon South West, worked on the Grampians complex fire as a crew leader.
We wish our CFA representatives well on this ‘Summer heroes’ voyage from Brisbane to Sydney departing next Tuesday 5 March. We kindly thank the generous gesture from Carnival Australia and Cunard - the Queen Mary 2 organisers for offering our members this special opportunity.
This voyage is a symbol of thanks not just for those lucky enough to win the prize, but for the contributions by all CFA members made during this summer fire season.
Thank you to all members for all you do.
