Ramblings of an Older CFA Volunteer

I have been around for a while now my birthday fast approaches so whilst I'm not as old as some I do have a few life experiences behind me

The advice and views I express are purely my own coloured only by the ups and downs of life in and out side of CFA

Make of it what you will learn from it discard it I do not mind at all

Persevere Adapt Overcome

Politicians do not always tell the truth no mater if your Liberal, Labour, Green or Independent this is an undeniable fact

Some people are better qualified than you are

You do not get your own way every time no mater how much you whinge

The Brigade will still function even if your not there (The Graveyard is full of indispensible people)

My mother said ‘If you can't say something good about someone then do not say anything at all"

New Zealand has some of the Best Trout Fishing in the World (I can show you Photos)

Showing up after the work is done does not entitle you to the coffee and cake

Sometimes you will make the first truck sometimes the second other times not at all  

It's not personal it's the facts of life                                                           

You will not always get on the truck (Get Over It)

If you really want to make the first truck choose your Real Estate wisely

Happy Wife Happy Life (Works for me)

Any man can be a Father it takes a Special Someone to be a Dad

Alcohol and cars do not mix (I know I was young and stupid)

Only buy income producing assets (I now wish I had)

Look after your body it is the most complicated piece of equipment you will ever have

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is

Beware of the Consultants for they are the people who come out of hiding after the battle is over and kill all the wounded

Life is not a practice run we only get one shot

Never go to bed angry

My wife says I never listen to her. At least I think that's what she said.

People can be more forgiving than you can imagine. But you have to forgive yourself. Let go of what's bitter and move on.

The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

Based upoun my dear departed Mothers earlier good advice I have removed this part of my blog

My biggest worry in life is that my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Stop and smell the roses (Firestar of course)

Only burn the Bridges you never want to cross again

We volunteer because we can not because we have to

The Trucks & Station need to be kept clean and tidy (It does not magically happen while you are away)

The Lights and Sirens are not toys to be played with (Yes that includes You)

Arguing the opposing view just for the sake of argument does no one any good

I am you are we are Australian (You are not a minority in this country if your Australian)

The pager is not your master but will go off at the most inconvenient times

The pager not going off is a good thing

Training is a good thing as it will help prepare you for the time when the pager goes off

You may not agree with some or all of what I have to say but truly I do not mind we do not have to agree on everything we do. But I encourage you all to get along with each other make the best of the cards you are dealt and some day you too can sit down and write your own ramblings
