Reflash team ready to roll
After an overwhelming response from prospective candidates, the Regional Radio Dispatch Service has recruited its team to reflash CFA radios.
Three Regional Co-ordinators will be based in Bendigo, Wendouree and Wangaratta to manage scheduling of station visits to complete the reflashing and also co-ordinate training of Members prior to the transition to the new digital radio network. The Regional Co-ordinators will support ten Reflash Support Officers who will work in five teams and travel through Districts, visiting stations to reflash CFA radios.
The reflashing starts on Monday, 23 September and involves an upgrade to software in CFA radios, enabling them to operate on the new digital radio network. Reflashing will continue until the middle of 2014.
Derek Dawkins, RRDS Engineering Manager, oversaw final testing of the software to ensure it met reliability and quality standards prior to starting the reflash process.
“We have tested the software supplied by Tait and confirmed it meets reliability and quality standards, enabling our team to start upgrading the software in CFA radios,” Derek said.
“The reflash team visited Bayswater and Upper Ferntree Gully Fire Stations this week to practice the reflash process, prior to hitting the road to start reflashing Districts 2, 12 and 15.”
Districts 12, 15 and 2 are the first scheduled to transition to the new digital radio network. District 12 will pilot the new network and transition on 8 December 2013. The transition will continue on a district by district basis until May 2014
