RRDS at Elmore Field Days
The Regional Radio Dispatch Service Project Team joined forces with CFA staff from Loddon Mallee Region and ESTA to attend the annual Elmore Field Days.
With many farmers also CFA Members, attending one of Victoria’s largest rural field days was a valuable opportunity to interact and tell them about the RRDS project. During the three days, a steady stream of visitors to the CFA marquee collected information about the project and were updated on the coverage the new digital network will provide and how the transition will be implemented.
Information about the project was well received, particularly the improvements to radio coverage, operating on a single dispatch channel across each District and bringing remaining Brigades across to dispatch through VicFire.
Yabba North Brigade Captain Russell Hardie and Communications Officer Kimberley Hardie dropped in on the CFA marquee while at the Elmore Field Days.
“Our Brigade moved to Dispatch through VicFire a few years ago and the change has been very positive,” Russell said.
“Communicating with VicFire took some adjustment but overall it has worked well. The Dispatchers provide great service and it really feels like they are part of the team.”
“Our local Communications Officers are still involved but they now help out in other ways and step in when large jobs require it.”
RRDS Regional Co-ordinator for Loddon Mallee Paul Davis said the project team planned to attend other rural field days in coming months.
