A house fire at Skye last night (Sunday 7 December) was attended by four trucks and a teleboom, with all occupants escaping the house safely before crews arrived.

The fire, which started at around 10.15pm, appeared to have started in or around a Coonara-style wood heater according to Operations Officer Paul Carrigg.

"Skye Fire Brigade was first on scene, and the fire had travelled from one end of the roof space to the other by the time they arrived," he said.

Firefighters entered the building using breathing apparatus and did a great job limiting damage from the fire largely to the roof space. The fire was brought under control just after 11pm.

Fire investigators are on scene this morning looking into the cause.
