Smoke alarm saves mum & baby

A working smoke detector has helped a mother and her five month old baby boy escape their smoke filled home.

The woman was alerted to the smoke by a working smoke alarm just before 8am (Mon Dec 10) in their Caroline Springs home.

The pair escaped the house shortly before fire crews arrived who administered oxygen to the baby as a precaution.

He was transported to hospital by paramedics for observations.
