A grass fire caused by the spontaneous combustion of a compost bin was rapidly brought under control by Eldorado brigade at the weekend.

Whilst the first brigade on scene managed to suppress the fire, it is worth noting, that the support brigades from Wangaratta North, Everton, Tarrawingee and Wangaratta all responded in less than six minutes.

The attached pictures provided by the District 23 Ground Observers highlight the value of fuel reduction in slowing the spread of fires.

This fire is a timely reminder to all households to check compost heaps and ensure that their bins are turned over and aired regularly in warm weather.
