Super Saver Smash
On Wed 22 January, an elderly woman reversed her car into the $2 Saver Shop in Cheltenham Rd, Keysborough.
The force of the impact smashed three window panels as the car came to rest inside the store on top of racks of stock.
Senior Station Officer Mark Stephens from Springvale brigade with his crew ensured the woman trapped in the car was safe, as crews tried to work out how to safely extricate the car and the victim.
Rick Owen from Dandenong brigade coordinated the rescue crew to remove loose glass and debris prior to attaching chains and pulling the car out by the rescue winch. Paramedics attended the female who was suffering shock more than injury.
Police and the shire building inspector also attended and assessed the damage to the building. The car smashed the cash register and serving counter back into the store and luckily staff and customers were able to avoid serious injury.
They were expecting to be back in business by the end of the week.
