Suspicious factory fire

CFA fire investigators and police will look into the cause of a fire at a Lilydale factory early this morning (27 May).

CFA District 13 Acting Operations Officer Chris Hall said CFA and MFB crews responded to the fire just before 12.30am.

“The fire was in an office area of a small motor mechanics factory on Cave Hill Road,” he said.

“There was some structural damage as a result of the fire.”

The factory was a single storey ‘tilt slab’ which means it had concrete walls. The fire was contained to the one building, around 10x30 metres.

The fire was called under control at 1am.

Mr Hall said around 40 firefighters attended as well as police and ambulance crews.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.
