Talk to CFA at Fountain Gate
Shoppers with a New Year's resolution to be Fire Ready can head down to Fountain Gate shopping centre between 2 January and 5 January for free advice, information and a guided tour of sources such as the FIre Ready app for smartphones.
CFA members, who will be joined at various times by personnel from Casey City Council, will be ready to answer any questions people can throw at them about bushfire safety.
Community Education Coordinator Ellisa Bourne said that one of the best things people could do at this stage of the fire season was to talk face to face with CFA.
“There are very few ‘one-size-fits-all' rules when it comes to bushfire, which is why we always encourage you to come and have a chat,” she said. “Everyone’s situation is different – where your property is situated can make a big difference to your level of risk and the preparations you need to make.
“We’re more than happy to walk you through the basics and give you advice about how to plan to protect your home and family this summer.
“Even if you’ve done quite a lot of preparation and planning, it’s still a good idea to stop by to make sure you’re on the right track and have all the local updates.”
Ellisa said that especially people travelling down the coast, whether for a day or for a week, needed to be aware of how to monitor information to stay safe.
“The Christmas frenzy is over and now's the time to take action,” she said.
The fire safety display will be set up close to Myer at Fountain Gate during the centre’s trading hours from Wednesday 2 January to Saturday 5 January. It is one of many shopping centre displays being held around Victoria as part of the Summer Roadshow.
Centro Wodonga (7-10 January) is the next shopping centre destination, along with Rosebud Plaza (10-12 January).
