The idea of a Member Engagement Volunteer Reference Group (VRG) grew after a group of CFA volunteers helped out with planning and running the first CFA Community Engagement State Forum at Macedon back in 2011.

From those humble beginnings we now have a high functioning Volunteer Reference Group with specific roles and responsibilities laid out in a Terms of Reference. The VRG still helps out with the annual Community Engagement State Forum, but also provides vital feedback to HQ on community safety issues, proposals and activities. All VRG members are passionate about community safety, engagement and education.

Every few years the VRG has gone through a refresh. This has been a great way to keep views and ideas fresh, and gives other volunteers a chance to participate. With 8 members joining the VRG Alumni this year, a call for nominations to join our 2017 VRG went out a couple of weeks ago. We received nominations from across the state – from the high country in the North East (Chiltern) to the sheep grazing flats in the West (Hamilton); and from rural locations (Trida) to urban brigades (Scoresby); and everything in between. With all CFA Regions represented, the 2017 VRG is a very good cross section of CFA volunteer brigades.

Congratulations to our new* VRG members, who together with our current VRG members, will continue to help out with new community safety initiatives; and provide local perspective and feedback to HQ on community engagement activities.
