CFA has always been a family to me.

Both my grandfather and father were members of the brigade in the town where I grew up.

Story by Peter Sharman

My first real fire brigade memory was when Dad disappeared for several days fighting a fire in a nearby town.

I joined Epping Brigade in 1984 and transferred to Traralgon in 1990 followed by two years in Marong before returning to Epping. In 1996 transferred to Craigieburn as the Training Manager and became Secretary for Hume Group until 1999. I left Craigieburn in 2003 and joined Kinglake & District and once again took up the role of Group Secretary for Lower Yarra Group. I transferred to Tarnagulla Brigade in 2008 for a couple of years and finally came back to the sunny hills of Kinglake West where I am today.

During 2008-2011. I was also a member of the District 12 Headquarters Brigade and today still have an active role within District 12 at an ICC level and a member of the District 12 DPC.

My video story is about the links between a family and activities within a CFA brigade large or small – both the happy and sad, good and bad times just like those experienced in a family.
