The Fire Safety Pledge is back in 2016
Building on the success of last year, CFA will again be hosting The Fire Safety Pledge in 2016 – an innovative competition focusing on improving community fie safety.
Brigades are being offered the chance to win one of three $1000 cash prizes in the next eight weeks by simply getting members of their community to take the online ‘Fire Safety Pledge’.
The Pledge aims to increase public awareness regarding the risk of fires and offers the community some specific actions they can choose to take in order to reduce their risk or better prepare for fire.
The pledge will offer both summer fire safety actions such as “I pledge to check the Fire Danger Ratings for my area each day” and home fire safety actions such as “I pledge to test my smoke alarms monthly and change the battery each year at the end of daylight savings”.
How it works
When members of the public make their commitments online, they will be asked to enter a local CFA brigade they may wish to support. At the end of the competition (which commences at 1:00pm on 3 November 2016 and will run through until 11:59pm on 22 December 2016) the brigade with the most number of pledges across three different categories will receive a cash prize of $1,000. The different competition categories cater for CFA brigades serving communities of different sizes and give small brigades a chance to compete just by connecting with their community. The eligible categories are:
- Overall winner – CFA brigade with the overall most votes
- Per-capita – CFA brigade with the most votes relative to their approximate population
- Tiny Town – for brigades serving an approximate population of less than 100 people
To create a public incentive, anyone who takes the pledge will go into a draw to win one of four Samsung Galaxy Tablets (donated by Telstra who are proud supporters of the 2016 Fire Safety Pledge) or one of four $100 Bunnings Gift Vouchers.
