The girls fire up

For the first time in its 80-year history, the girls have outnumbered the guys on a recruit course at Mount Eliza Fire Brigade.

Brigade Captain Andrew Whitehead stated, “In my 30 years’ service we have always had women in the brigade, but this is the first time that we have recruited more women than men for an intake.

"We had four females and one male on our most recent course.”

The Mt Eliza Fire Brigade is 100 per cent volunteer and we rely on members of the local community to provide this vital service.

During February we will be calling on Mount Eliza residents to help their local community. We are again actively recruiting for firefighting and emergency response members as well as other brigade support roles.

If you are considering volunteering with CFA and what’s involved in being a volunteer, we will be holding an information session in early March.
