The Tree Project stands tall
On Valentine's Day, 14 February 2014, the Blacksmiths' Tree was finally installed in Strathewen.
Stamped into the base, now hidden, are the words:
I HAVE RISEN FROM THE FLAMES
I HAVE STRETCHED ACROSS THE EARTH
I AM SHINING WITH YOUR NAME
Story by Cliff Overton from The Tree Project team
The site will remain a construction area for quite some time. Currently it's a bit bare and dusty, we expect to install pathways and seating over the next few months. The Tree and the site will be looking good by mid-year and looking its best after September when the final planting will take place.
If you do visit earlier, we ask that you be mindful of the local community who are still recovering from the destruction of Black Saturday. Quiet visits of small groups would be appreciated.
Thank you to our supporters who have been with us over this journey. Fourteen February is five years to the day that the idea of the Tree was conceived. We are very proud of the incredible work of many people over the years.
One of those unplanned but amazing outcomes of the final size of the tree - when you look at all the regrowth that has happened over the last five years on site, the tree is exactly the same height, the five years of 'growing' we put into the project was matched to real life tree growth.
