One house has been destroyed and two others significantly damaged in San Remo earlier this afternoon.

Five crews were called to the scene on the Boulevard in San Remo just before 2.30pm today (29 May 2017).

Upon arrival the middle house was well alight and threatening surrounding properties.

Bass Coast Group Officer Damien O’Connor said the fire originated in the middle house and spread to two surrounding house.

“Unfortunately despite their best efforts there was very little crews could do to contain the blaze,” he said.

An advice message issued urged San Remo residents to close their windows and doors and stay out of the smoke.

It took crews an hour and a half to contain the blaze.

A fire investigator is now on the scene to determine the cause.

Police and Ambulance also attended the fire.

Seven CFA trucks from San Remo, Wonthaggi and Phillip Island helped get the blaze under control.
