TO ALL CFA MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This morning's Herald Sun contains an article by Ruth Lamperd that makes a number of very serious allegations linking CFA's Training College at Fiskville to cancers in CFA members and their families.

These are very serious claims. The first time that we became aware of this report was yesterday when we were asked for comment by the Herald Sun.

We are very concerned for the health of our current and former CFA employees.

We welcome any information that people are aware of in relation to these claims. If you have any information that could assist, we ask that it be sent to the Executive Manager Operational Training and Volunteers, Mr Lex De Man. (Email to:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

As a result of the Herald Sun report, CFA is now making enquiries into the report of 1990.

It is important to note that this morning's report from the Herald Sun web site says: "Most of the drums were eventually dug up and disposed of properly."

CFA will move today to engage a hygienist to prepare a report for CFA. There is no evidence that there is any risk to current visitors or users of the CFA training facility at Fiskville.

As this matter develops, we will endeavour to keep CFA members informed.

Yours sincerely,

Euan Ferguson

Chief Officer
