A Total Fire Ban has been declared again for the Mallee and Northern Country districts and also the North East district.

CFA Chief Officer Euan Ferguson said residents in those areas need to exercise extra caution in the next 24 hours, as the fire danger rating tomorrow will be SEVERE.

All other districts will range from HIGH to VERY HIGH fire danger rating tomorrow.

“Overnight and tomorrow we expect a cool change to reach the Wimmera and North Central area, reducing the risk of new fire starts in those areas.  However, the Bureau of Meteorology are advising the Fire Danger Ratings remain SEVERE in three districts and we expect those conditions to last to mid-late afternoon," he said.

“The Bureau of Meteorology is also forecasting the likelihood of dry lightning across the Mallee this afternoon and its possible there may be more tonight and tomorrow, adding to the risk of new fire starts.”

“For those considering their weekend travel plans, check the Fire Danger Rating for your destination on the CFA website before you go and when you arrive, and listen to local radio for warnings and advice while you’re on the road.“

The Mallee, North East and Northern Country have a ‘SEVERE’ Fire Danger Rating tomorrow

The Wimmera, North Central and East Gippsland FDR will be ‘VERY HIGH’, while the rest of the state (South West, Central and West and South Gippsland) will be ‘HIGH’ fire danger.

During a TFB, subject to exceptions, no fire can be lit in the open air or be allowed to
remain alight in the open air between 00:01 and 23:59.
