Training ground sneak peek
CFA members and their family and friends are invited to take a rare glimpse into the new Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre at Craigieburn when it opens to the public for three hours on Sunday, June 29.
The Victorian Government has delivered the $109 million state of the art training facility based in Craigieburn, featuring props that simulate a range of real life emergency scenarios, including fires, road accidents and other emergencies.
“This is a unique chance for the local community to come to the centre to see firefighters and emergency personnel in action as they carry out multi-agency fire training drills,” MFB CEO Jim Higgins said.
“The training props will represent typical Melbourne features such as a suburban neighbourhood, a tram stop in the CBD, a classic Melbourne shopping strip, the underground rail loop and the Burnley tunnel.”
As well as live fire demonstrations, the family fun day will include interactive displays with fire trucks, children’s activities and show bags full of interesting facts and information.
There will also be a sausage sizzle to raise funds for the local CFA brigade.
Hume Mayor Councillor Casey Nunn said the training centre was a fantastic addition to the City of Hume and encouraged the public to make the most of the open day.
“This is an impressive facility and it’s a great opportunity for people to take their families or friends and see our firefighters in training,” Cr Nunn said.
The world-class training centre is set to benefit thousands of emergency personnel not only from the MFB, but also the Country Fire Authority, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, Department of Environment and Primary Industries and the State Emergency Service.
The facility will be open to the public from 11am to 2pm on Sunday, 29 June.
