Updated Bushfire Firefighter reference manual

The second edition of the Bushfire Firefighter reference manual has been released with updated safety information. 

CFA and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) have recently reviewed and updated the Bushfire Firefighter reference manual, releasing the second edition at the end of August 2017. The manual is used as supporting material for CFA's Minimum Skills training program and now contains current information on a range of safety topics.

Changes to content in Bushfire Firefighter include the following.

  • Reference to CFA Chief Officer and DELWP Chief Fire Officer
  • Updated units of competency in the overview
  • Content on Dynamic Risk Assessment (DRA), hazardous trees and Red Flag Warnings to be current with the Joint Standard Operating Procedures
  • Content on LACES
  • Refresh of information on mental health and wellbeing
  • Update to AIIMS principles and structure
  • Removal of content and images referring to Motorola radios
  • More images representing DELWP firefighters
  • Update of images showing old protective clothing and equipment
  • Change of terminology from Fireground Information Update to Field Information Update
  • New information on debriefing, maps and GPS and DELWP's Buddy System
  • New information on Level 1, 2 and 3 bushfire response

The manual is now available electronically via Training Materials Online (accesible through Brigades Online) and will be available in hardcopy for new CFA members.
