On Friday 3 January 39 firefighters from the United States were trained to use CFA fire trucks by local volunteers from Darraweit Guim and Kyneton brigades.

Training included familiarisation with 3.4C and 2.4C tankers including basic stowage, entrapment procedure, draughting, grassfire edge attack and pumping operations.

Eight volunteers from Kyneton and Darraweit Guim brigades were involved in the training, including Kyneton 1st Lieutenant Gareth Mclntyre.

“It was great to be able to show the US firefighters hands-on experience with the CFA equipment as we have different appliances to the US including different entrapment equipment," Gareth said.

“I was thankful to be able to be there and support the US In supporting Victoria.” he added.

USA firefighters were deployed the following day in CFA vehicles with CFA drivers to help support brigades fight ongoing bushfires in Gippsland.
