Applications close soon, for VFBV Darley Volunteer Leadership scholarship courses for the first half of 2013.

Applications close soon, for VFBV Darley Volunteer Leadership scholarship courses for the first half of 2013.

Information and application documents are now available on the VFBV website’s Darley Scholarship page at:  www.vfbv.com.au/darleyLeadershipProgram.php and applications are open until January 31.

The course includes lectures, group projects and home study, designed to build leadership and practical skills that can be used in the volunteer’s employment, community and Brigade.

Successful participants will graduate with Certificate IV in Frontline Management.  The leadership scholarships benefit the participants’ own careers, their brigades and the communities they protect.  A number of the early graduates have already gone on to become members of Brigade Management Teams.

The scholarship program is an important commitment; applicants will need to obtain the endorsement of their line manager (Captain, OIC or Unit Controller).

The course is heavily reliant on distance learning, but the face to face sessions are also important – applicants should consult their calendar to ascertain their ability to attend.

The Scholarship Selection Panel will consider all applications and offers will be made in early February 2013.  Four regionally based courses have been scheduled and each applicant should indicate their preference for a particular course.

As always, funded scholarship places will be limited and every attempt will be made to provide a fair and equitable spread of offers of places.  If successful, the applicant will receive a formal letter of offer with acknowledgement reply slip during February 2013.
