Volunteer Champions Awards - call for nominations
A call for nominations has been released for the 2016 Premier’s Volunteer Champions Awards.
The awards committee would like to hear about outstanding volunteers who fit the following categories:
- Change Maker
Nominations close at 5pm Tuesday 9 August 2016 for theawards, which celebrate and recognise the vital roles of volunteers.
Last year’s Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Award - one of the state’s top accolades for volunteers, chosen from nominees amongst all categories - was won by a CFA member.
In a competitive field, Tyabb brigade's Wayne Etcell was recognised for the extent and professionalism of his volunteer commitments spanning 42 years, which takes in the Scouts, Surf Life Saving and CFA, as well as service as a Justice of the Peace and Bail Justice.
The night after the award ceremony epitomised Wayne’s commitment. After attending a scrub fire in Hastings, he went home, changed, got back in his car and drove to Dandenong and Cranbourne police stations to act as a Bail Justice.
According to the Volunteer Awards website up to 60 volunteers will be recognised with awards in 2016 to acknowledge the growing number of Victorians who give up their time and skills.
Award recipients and their nominators will be invited to a celebration and ceremony in December in Melbourne.
Nominations can be submitted online here.
