Sunday’s Annual Firefighter Memorial Service will be streamed live for those members who cannot attend in person.

CFA’s 34th Annual Firefighter Memorial Service will be held on Sunday 7 May in Mount Macedon to honour the 80 firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Annual Firefighter Memorial Service pays respect to those who have fallen while serving their communities, and provides the opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to reflect and remember.

The service is held every year close to International Firefighters’ Day (St Florians Day) on 4 May - a global event started in 1999 following the tragic death of five firefighters in Linton the previous year.

There is still an opportunity to attend the event, but registration is essential by emailing memorial@cfa.vic.gov.au or calling 0401 944 349 as venue capacity is limited.

When: 2pm, Sunday 7 May
Where: Victorian Emergency Management Institute (VEMI) – Mount Macedon

A livestream of the event is also available for those unable to attend in person. Join the event on Youtube

Family members and friends, CFA and Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria (VFBV) executives, as well as government representatives will come together on the day to remember and honour the personal sacrifices and commitment firefighters make each and every day.

A number of songs will be performed by singer Cole Rintoul throughout the memorial.

Readings will be conducted by CFA Board Member and captain of Toolangi Fire Brigade Dawn Hartog; CEO Natalie MacDonald, DCO Operational Performance and Capability Kaylene Jones; District 2 ACFO Steve Alcock; VFBV Board Member and ex-captain Trafalgar Fire Brigade Darren Wallace; VFBV District 2 Council President Laraine Leask; and captain Macedon Fire Brigade Ross Luke.

For those attending the event in person, CFA dress uniform or smart casual clothing should be worn. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the ceremony.
