CFA has a proud history and partnership with The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, with brigades across the state fundraising for sick kids, year in, year out.

The 2018 Good Friday Appeal was launched today and members from Werribee Fire Brigade were in attendance in recognition of a huge achievement.
This year the Werribee Fire Brigade’s incredible 40-plus year contribution to the Good Friday Appeal was officially recognised after the brigade raised a cool $1 million.
RCH Good Friday Appeal deputy director Emoke Bakacs rewarded the efforts of the brigade and their community by presenting Captain Michael Wells and Fundraising Coordinator Peter May with a plaque last week.
“Werribee Fire Brigade is the first in the metropolitan area to raise the sum of $1 million. This is a huge feat and I feel proud to have the honour of presenting this award,” Ms Bakacs said.
“The Royal Children’s Hospital has such a strong affiliation with CFA and its huge workforce across the state. The members and their families work tirelessly to fundraise as much as they can. It really is a testament to who they are and we bestow our heartfelt thanks to all who contribute.”
What started in 1977 as two families raising money became so large the Werribee Fire Brigade was asked to take over the tin rattling.
The logistics involved with coordinating such a large volunteer workforce is phenomenal, with the key to success stemming from hard work, long hours and team work.
Werribee Fire Brigade’s Fundraising Coordinator Peter May acknowledged all the local businesses who donate time, resources, supplies and their generosity which ensures the event goes smoothly.
He noted in particular Wyndham Vale Fire Brigade, which was previously part of Werribee before emancipating in 2011 due to the growth in the community. City of Wyndham Council, MacKillop College, Werribee Branch of Commonwealth Bank Australia were also thanked.
