On Saturday 8 December just before 4:00pm Crib Point brigade were responded to a grass & scrub fire in Glossop Road Crib Point.
As they left the fire station smoke was showing on the hot windy afternoon. A quick call of "Make tankers 3" went out and this was soon upgraded to 4 and then 8. Crib Point's Lieut Joe Goninon as the Incident Controller organised crews to work either side of a chain mesh fence to contain the fire as a south westerly wind change was imminent.
The fire burnt up into a few pine trees and dense scrub before heading into long grass and approaching several large clumps of blackberries.
Crews had the fire contained when the change came through and the nearby workshop at the rear of a property was spared from the fire.
A fire stop was placed on the call at 6:25pm after blacking out the area thoroughly. Crews responded from Crib Point, Bittern, Balnarring, Hastings, Somerville, Tyabb and Moorooduc.
Police were called in to investigate the cause of the suspicious fire.
