White Ribbon Day – Swear the oath & march
Please join me in taking the oath to never commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.
Thirty per cent of women worldwide are affected by intimate partner violence, the most common type of violence against women.
And Australia is not immune. At least one woman is killed every week by a current or former partner in our country.
This is unacceptable and inexcusable, and stopping this violence is everyone’s responsibility.
We're doing our bit at Burwood, so I invite you to ‘swear the oath’, ‘walk a mile in her shoes’ and purchase a white ribbon. We plan on filming the activities and sharing them via our social media channels and with the White Ribbon organisation.
I've also asked other District and Region offices to participate in this important awareness-raising exercise.
Both men and women are invited to participate and march with me around the lake behind building 16. You can ‘walk a mile in her shoes’ (wearing hopefully comfortable women’s shoes) or purchase a white ribbon.
Either way demonstrates that CFA says “No to violence against women!”
Muffins will be available for a gold coin donation and ribbons will be for sale with all proceeds going to White Ribbon Australia www.whiteribbon.org.au
WHEN: Tuesday, 25 November 2014
WHERE: Building 16 carpark, Lakeside Drive Burwood East
TIME: 10.30am (Please join us for both the walk and the oath)
