On Thursday evening 13 April, Whiteheads Creek Fire Brigade opened its doors to the public for an exhibition of works by local artists.

What a superb opening night it was!

Rhonda Sanderson, the mayor of Mitchell, did the honours, and said how CFA had always been of great interest to her. The President of the Brigade, Geoff Halpin, responded with some history of firefighting in the area and showed us an amazing relic of the fires.

The large number of patrons was treated to some lovely music by the group Winded, while brigade members were busy offering a tasty array of finger food. Nina from Brave Goose Winery was in demand with a selection of reds and whites by the glass and the bottle, with a portion of each sale being donated to the brigade.

There were more than 140 works of both scupture and paintings and business was brisk, with two raffles and a silent auction attracting a lot of attention.

This is the fifth continuous year the show has been held for the whole of Easter to raise funds for our local, smaller brigades – and long may it continue.

By Easter Monday we had raised $4225 for the brigade.

Next year we'll be back at Trawool Fire Brigade!
