Attendees included Wingeel brigade friends and family, community members and special guests from neighbouring brigades.
In perfect weather, MLC Simon Ramsey officially opened the station by unveiling a bronze plaque. This was followed by CFA Operations Manager Gerry Verdoorn’s presentation of a number of service awards ranging from five year certificates to a 55 year medal awarded to Peter McIntyre.
The multitude of awards presented keenly illustrated the history, experience and long-standing dedication of Wingeel CFA volunteers.
Wingeel Captain Simon Bogie concluded the official proceedings with a speech recognising the efforts of brigade members of past and present and he highlighted the unusual geographic area covered by Wingeel CFA - the brigade's area spans three municipalities (Golden Plains Shire, Surf Coast Shire and Colac/Otway Shire), two Total Fire Ban Districts (Central and South West).
Captain Bogie thanked CFA for the new fire station and also thanked guests and those who helped make the grand opening of the new station a success.
The day was concluded with refreshments such as home-made sandwiches, sausage rolls and slices all generously provided by brigade members. A wonderful day was had by all.
