Yinnar South home destroyed

Fire investigators continue to look into the cause of a fire this morning, which destroyed a Yinnar South home on Explorer’s Rd overnight.

Seven CFA crews from Boolarra, Churchill, Merton Group, Morwell, Traralgon and Yinnar South responded to the call at 4.30am, finding the home fully alight when they arrived.

District 27 Rostered Duty Officer Shane Maynard said it took firefighters several hours to completely extinguish the fire.

“Crews worked incredibly well together under difficult circumstances with low visibility from smoke, limited water access and a number of black spots that were difficult to reach,” Mr Maynard said.

“It was an external firefight mostly, with breathing apparatus used due to heavy smoke.

“Ambulance paramedics attended initially because neighbours weren’t certain if occupants were at home.

“Thankfully we were able to quickly ascertain no one was inside at the time.”

Some 25 CFA firefighters helped extinguish the blaze.

Police attended, however the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
