R U OK? Day - Thursday 8 September
CFA is taking part in R U OK? Day, a mental health initiative that encourages people to check on the well-being of colleagues, family and friends, with the simple question, “Are you ok?”.
There will be small gatherings at many brigades across the state and at HQ in support of the national charity R U OK? because we believe that asking “Are you OK?" is something we can all do to make a difference and look after each other.
Chief Officer Steve Warrington is encouraging everyone to get behind this important day and ask, “R U OK?".
“The invisible mental toll of attending traumatic and stressful emergencies is one of the hardest things CFA members have to deal with," said Steve, "and it’s not just about attendance at operational incidents. In other parts of our work in CFA and indeed in our lives outside of CFA, we sometimes come under significant pressures that have the potential to cause anxiety or depression.
"That’s why CFA supports R U OK? Day. Those three words show we care about every member of our brigades and support functions. You can also help by directing others to CFA’s member Assistance program.
“And if you’re feeling down, have a word with a close friend or speak confidentially with a local peer or one of our chaplains.
“CFA has a range of support services available to all CFA members and their immediate families.”
“Remember - Let’s continue to care for each other and ask R U OK?."
