This year on 25 April CFA members will be paying their respects in private in line with the physical distancing restrictions in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). They will join people across the country as we’re invited to step outside our homes and observe a minute’s silence as the Last Post is played during the ANZAC Dawn Service.
The ABC will broadcast the national service live from the Australian War Memorial. This service is scheduled to commence with the pre-service program at 5am and the national service at 5.30am.
CFA CEO and Chief Officer Steve Warrington said CFA people had a longstanding tradition of coming together to commemorate this day.
“While we are unable to commemorate this ANZAC Day through attending a public event, we can privately honour and remember those men and women who so bravely fought for our country.
“We thank them for their service and the instrumental role they have played in our fire services.
“I encourage our people to not only honour the fallen, but take time to reflect on their own service, sacrifice, and the enormity and importance of the contribution they make to their communities.
“Lest We Forget.”
